Type specimen voucher catalogue number: USNM:MAMM:55106

Type locality: "Xico, altitude 6,000 feet [= 1829 m], State of Vera Cruz, Mexico." Restricted by L. N. Carraway in 2007 to "latitude 19.42°N, longitude 97.0°W."

Species Status: This species is currently living, it lives in wild habitats, its taxonomic status is currently accepted, and it is listed in MSW3 2005.

IUCN Red List of Threatened Species status: Least concern


Species-specific notes: previously included S. altoensis and cristobalensis (tentatively considered a synonym of S. salvini)
